The Bird Decmposition Experiment in 2025

Since June, I had been working for an experiment on preventing “bird strikes” , which means that a bird crashes on a building as a result of the light reflection on its glass.

I love birds, so I dicided to make some contributions on this topic. In April and May, I joined in an observation activity about bird striking and chose to complete it near Anhui Radio and Televition Tower, which is equipped with many pieces of glass. Fortunately, the percentage of bird strikes is not high, but I still found one dead turtledove at the bottom of the tower.

At the same time, I was also thinking about one way to decrease the risk of bird strikes. In the end, I generated about one idea of driving birds away. As the product of my thoughts, a special kind of curtain wall, which allows bird-driving stickers to be placed inside it, came out. In 6th June, 2025, I registered the patent successfully and am now planning to try the sample’s effect. If it works a lot, I will donate some curtain walls to the companies that are willing to biuld new buildings.

Back to this experiment, it’s about observing how a bird disappears after its death caused by striking. In this experiment, I use chicks to mimic a dead bird and record how they become removed or decomposed. As we know, there are so many ways for them to vanish: Cleaning, foraging, rotting………… All in all, I need to find out how they go back to the recycle of nature after a man-made death.
